About Me
Who is behind Charming Designs?
That’s me, Bettina or Betty Schmidt from Germany. For a long time I have enjoyed writing, crafting and trying out various graphics programs in my spare time. After studying social sciences, I decided to make a change and turn my passion into a profession.
Over the next few years, I selfpublished my first books and had the pleasure of working with some great authors as a graphic designer.
Being an author myself, I know how important book covers are. They give a first impression and make the reader curious about a book. Because of that, I think it is important to design covers that match a story.
I particularly enjoy editing images. This includes color adjustments, but also more complex manipulations, like changing backgrounds, giving a person wings or making a fireball float above the hand of a witch. I love the challenge of creating something new and unique from several images.
Even years later, I still enjoy designing as much as I did at the beginning and look forward to many more design projects.
In early 2023, I decided to branch out a little, and started designing digital downloads that I sell in my Etsy store. They are mostly printable crafting materials, like Artist Trading Card labels & backgrounds, Junk Journal papers & ephemera, but also a few printable greeting cards.

During the summer of 2023 I started experimenting with AI art and have created several images using various AI image generators. I love the new possibilities AI Art offers and am excited to experiment some more. I see a lot of potential in using AI Art for book covers. Sometimes it’s difficult to find images that fit a story and its characters. Especially in genres like Fantasy, Sci-Fi & Steampunk.
I am looking forward to testing more AI generators and using the images created for my own characters as well as in my design projects.
